Emile Balland Coteaux du Giennois Loire Valley 2023 - 100% Sauvignon Blanc from 50-60 year old vines in clay limestone soils covered in caillottes. Natural yeast fermentation in stainless steel after 6 hours of temperature controlled maceration and rests on lees for up to 5 months with light filtration before bottling. The Sauvignon Blancs coming from this area (just northeast of Sancerre) are energetic, bright and crisp at a fraction of the cost of Sancerre. $22
Chateau de Plaisance L’Anjou Blanc 2023 Loire Valley - Vanessa Cherruau is a steward of one of the Loire’s great terroirs – Chaume. She’s producing a pure expression of old vine Chenin Blanc that is biodynamically farmed. A steely, minerally style, showing a light-bodied frame filled in with apple and spices, plus a touch of lanolin, with flint on the fluid, linear finish. Opens up in the glass to reveal salty, briny complexity. $34
Pierre Morey Bourgogne Aligote 2022 - 100% Sauvignon Blanc from 50-60 year old vines in claylimestone soils covered in caillottes. Natural yeast fermentation in stainless steel after 6 hours of temperature controlled maceration and rests on lees for up to 5 months with light filtration before bottling. Pierre Morey is a towering figure in Meursault. Along with his own prime vineyards he was also the winemaker at Domaine Leflaive in the 1980's and early '90's. He was one of the first growers in the region to fully embrace biodynamic farming, converting both Leflaive and his own domaine and reaching full certification by 1997. $34
