Friday Flight: American Wines

  • Vino 137 Southeast 28th Avenue Portland, OR, 97214 United States (map)

Let’s taste some wines from America in honor of 4th of July. Oregon, Washington and California will be on the menu.

The Flight $16 for 5 pours with 3 additional for purchase.

Tim Malone Rosato Nebbiolo Columbia Gorge 2024 $19 - It’s bursting with strawberries and peaches, with peach and cherry blossoms, fresh-picked cranberries, apple sauce, and granitic soil notes too. The palate is a lively rushing stream full of snowmelt and tastes like peach sorbet surrounded by spring flowers, with orange and grapefruit and lemon zest.

Landmass Pinot Noir Willamette Valley 2024 $29 - This is pretty indicative of the 2024 vintage here in Oregon. Beautiful red fruits, raspberry, cherry and lifted floral notes.

Loop de Loop Romeo Red 2023 Columbia Gorge $24 -  A youthful blend of Cabernet Franc and Pinot Noir - it is bright and fresh, yet structured and balanced, with fruit and verve.

Tablas Creek Patelin Rouge Paso Robles 2023 $28 - It's a bit "cheeky" for me to pour this right after the BBQ, but we mostly got rained out so I have a ton on hand. It's also a great wine from one of the nation's leading winery in Regenerative Farming. A blend of 45% Syrah, 30% Grenache, 23% Mourvèdre and 2% Counoise, starting with aromas of fennel and sage alongside cranberry fruit. The palate settles into a smoother display of wild berry and cherry, as chaparral spice pairs to the leathery texture.

Lone Birch Red Columbia Valley 2023 $14 - Showcasing the finest varietals from our estate vineyard, this red blend is comprised of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, and Malbec. Smooth and medium-bodied, it features layers of black cherry, plum, and fresh fig with undertones of smoked vanilla, baker’s chocolate, white pepper, and seared beechwood.

Bonus Wines

Mendivia Tempranillo 2023 $31 - 'La Carrera' Tempranillo 2022 A Red Wine from 100% Tempranillo. Aged in neutral French oak for 15 months. Farmed by Terry Sullivan, Upper Five Vineyard is situated at an elevation of 1920-feet outside of Talent, Oregon in the Rogue Valley. A deep, brooding nose of sour cherry and tobacco with a palate of raspberry, cherry and leather, a long finish supported by powdery tannins.

Cameron Willamette Valley Pinot Noir 2024 $33 - Another beautiful expression of the 2024 vintage here in Oregon. The 2024 is a brambly but airy expression of pinot noir. Half of this wine comes fruti from old vines at the Abbey Ridge vineyard, the rest from Clos Electrique by the winery and La Colina vineyard. Three touch points for old, non-irrigated vines in the Dundee hills.

Andrew Januik Horse Heaven Hills Cabernet 2022 $55 - Dusty dried flowers, crushed stone and savory herbs accentuate blackcurrants...silken textures and polished red berry fruit notes that slowly saturate toward the close...finishes with grippy tannins offset by a bump of residual acidity and violet inner florals. A real power house from Washington's Horse Heaven Hills!
